Help! My husband is talking about giving our teenage son a convertible sports car for his 18th birthday before he heads to college. It’s not safe and I don’t want to put our son at more risk than he already is being a teenage driver. He thinks its ok especially since teenage high performance car insurance in San Diego is available. Insurance shouldn’t even be offered for teens to drive sports cars! Help me convince my husband that he should not do this!
Angela R. – San Diego, CA

Editor:

Angela,
Thank goodness you are seeking advice. It is very risky and dangerous for teenage drivers to be driving in the first place let alone operating high performance vehicles. Research shows that 29% of road accidents are caused by teenage drivers and most of the accidents are fatal. Even though new drivers are only 10% of the entire driving population, they are involved in 25% of the accidents.

Teenage drivers, especially those in college, will have numerous distractions that put them at risk. First, they will have limited supervision and they don’t always have the best judgment. Second, even if your son may have good judgment teenagers are often influenced by their peers who don’t. Third, college poses a number of temptations, one of which may be underage drinking. The last thing you want your son to do if he is tempted to drink is to get behind the wheel of a car, let alone a sports car. He is putting his life and the life of others at risk. Please share these statistics with your husband.

If this doesn’t change his mind, perhaps you should have him research the costs of the insurance! This alone should change his mind! Insurance companies label the combination of an inexperienced driver (anyone under 25) and a high performance engine (an engine over 1.8 liter capacity) as high risk. Not only that, but sports cars are more likely to be stolen and teenagers don’t think about where they drive or park their cars. This means you will pay ghastly insurance rates each month.

If you don’t think your husband will check out rates for insuring a teenage driver in a sports car, you should! It will just take a few minutes and you can approach your husband not only with the statistics above but the cost for teenage high performance car insurance in San Diego. I wish you the best of luck!

I am test driving and researching sports cars. Is there anything I need to keep in mind before I purchase the car that may help me in the long run with rates for high performance car insurance in San Diego?
Samantha S. – Encinitas, CA

Samantha,
Good job on your planning! Most people just run out and buy the car of their dreams and then pay for it in the long run with their insurance. Yes, there are things to keep in mind while shopping for sports cars and high performance car insurance in San Diego.

Avoid Flashy - I know this is tough . . . flashy and sports cars seem to go hand in hand, but that flashy ride will be more of a target for car thieves. Carriers realize this and will up your rates based on the flashiness of your car.

Parking Arrangements - If you can make arrangements to park your new car in a guarded storage facility or in a locked garage, you reduce the risk of theft and in turn your insurance will give you a discount for secure parking.

Security System - Most new cars have the option at the dealer to purchase an anti-theft device but if you don’t have that option, look into an outside company. It is very important to have an anti-theft device not only to protect your car, but to help lower your insurance. Don’t confuse alarms with anti-theft devices. While alarms may be loud and scare away a thief, many thieves know how to work around these. Anti-theft devices kill the ignition and prevent the car from being started.

Safety Features - You might not think of it when buying a new modern sports car, but if you are looking at a vintage model be sure to know that airbags, seat belts and other modern safety features will bring your insurance costs down. Be sure to also research the internet for safety reports and tests. Audi just released their crash reports and are now ranked as one of the safest high performance vehicles on the road.

Insurance - When you decide on your new car, make sure to research your options for high performance car insurance in San Diego. If you can do this before you purchase the car, even better! Make sure you compare many different quotes for price AND coverage. The lower price isn’t always the better choice. For high performance cars, it is smart to protect you and your car with full coverage. Sports cars cost more to repair and are at higher risk, so you are smart in having the best coverage available. I don’t necessarily suggest switching carriers from your current one, but just do your homework. The easiest way to do this is to shop online where you can get several quotes online. It’s a very competitive market right now, so check out many companies for high performance car insurance in San Diego in addition to your current carrier. CLICK BELOW to instantly receive several quotes in your area and be able to go back to your carrier to compare with what they offer. It’s quick, doesn’t require personal information and is secure.

Again, I applaud you for your research! Good luck and let us know what you finally decide on!

I heard that credit ratings influence car insurance quotes. Is this true? I am looking for high performance car insurance in San Diego.

Pam J. – Oceanside, CA

Editor:

Pam,
Yes, it is true that credit ratings play a significant part in your car insurance rate. If you have decent or high credit scores, you will most likely receive a lower quote than someone with the same vehicle as you but with bad credit. Carriers look at everything when deciding who pays what for their coverage. It’s a competitive market right now, so it’s best to shop around before selecting a carrier or renewing your current policy. I recommend looking for high performance car insurance in San Diego online – it’s secure, quick and you get several quotes at once. I attached a link below for you to see if you are getting the best rate possible.

My wife talked me into buying a convertible sports car so we can cruise California on the weekends. As a second car, are there any deals on high performance car insurance in San Diego?
Mike F. – San Diego, CA

Editor:

Mike,
Insurance companies will consider you less of a risk and may give you a lower rate if you aren’t in traffic every day and only drive the car part time. Most companies offer low mileage plans (although they will check mileage on an annual basis), but the savings is worth it. Make sure to compare several policies for high performance car insurance in San Diego in addition to checking with your current carrier. To get started, just type in your zip code and you will instantly get several quotes. It will take less than 5 minutes and you will be on your way to cruisin’ California! Have a great time – try and get to Big Sur, you will not believe the views!

I just inherited my Dad’s sports car and am outraged at how much my insurance carrier is charging me to add it to my policy. Are there any less expensive policies out there for high performance car insurance in San Diego?
Bill M. – Mission Bay, CA

Editor:

Bill,
High performance car insurance is different than your standard vehicle collision policy. Whatever you do, do not insure your sports car under your standard policy that covers your everyday car. You will pay high dollar and may not get the best coverage if you do that. Instead, look for a provider that specializes in high performance car insurance in San Diego. These companies have the funding needed to cover you but they focus on providing protection to higher risk type cars. Make sure to do your homework. Just as with standard vehicle insurance, low mileage, age and good driving discounts are available. It’s best to shop around with many carriers. It’s a very competitive market right now, so check out many companies for high performance car insurance in San Diego in addition to your current carrier. Click Here to instantly receive several quotes in your area and be able to go back to your carrier to compare with what they offer. It’s quick, doesn’t require personal information and is secure. Good luck and enjoy your new – car!
